Node.L puts Media Art on the SOAP BOX

The Dana Centre had their own launch on Thursday with the "Media Art Soapbox" This was an innovative idea, in that it was an opportunity for those involved in Media Art to have there own Soap Box and introduce their work and projects to the audience. Guest Soap Boxers were invited via email to apply and the first to respond were chosen. This introduced serendipity, the mixed bag and the quality was outstanding to say the least.

The highlight of the evening for me were two items: One was introduced by Richard Woods of http://www.diykyoto.co.uk 'Wattson' and the other was presented by James Larsson entitled "Bed Time Stories for Geeks", which had everyone in stitches and the Kyoto box of tricks was very green and eco friendly. I urge you to visit the kyoto site for more information also see a snippet of the 'bedtime stories for geeks' Video clip here.

The evening was hosted by curator Hannah Redlar, who did a splendid job throughout and despite the time restraints, she still managed to fit everyone in amazingly. The Dana centre is the Science Museum's annex for the public to discuss contemporary and controversial science, technology and culture which challenge public perceptions and the Soap Box receives a definite first on this count.

This was an interesting event, which I felt opened up Media Art to the public and made space available to those who may not have their own Soap Box. Overall I think an excellent start to the Node.L season. Cheers
