Visit Alexandre Nakonechnyj and Dave Miller from 9am to 3pm at BAFTA - The British Academy of Film & Television Arts on 195 Piccadilly in London W1J 9LN, they are both presenting their exciting projects at Be Very Afraid III organised by Heppell.Net. Title: “Sua Voz†(Your Voice) by: Alexandre Nakonechnyj Created and developed by Alexandre (aka Nako) for Gabeira. Part of the research developed at the MA department of Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication. Acknowledgement: Fernando Gabeira, Fabiano Carnevale, Christian Benesch. More and more, emerging technologies allow for the creation of collective interfaces, raising the question of how such can bring empowerment back to citizens. Although Brazil is portrayed as an emerging economy, everyday reality is quite different. Despite the impressive number of 95 million mobile phones reported by the National Communication Agency, this figure doesn’t describe how these phones are actually used: mostly pay as you go and, more important, as status symbols. In fact, the public phone network is still an important communication channel.
“Sua Voz†(Your Voice) explores new democratic systems of evaluating decisions. It seeks to understand how platforms layered over digital culture can help intensify the shift towards open collective creations. Here, it is not a Bluetooth app or Java software that appears as saviours, but simple voice. Technological ability or infrastructure are cast aside, here the channel is opened for everyone. The system was created as a tool for the 2006 political campaign of Fernando Gabeira – founder of the national green party and an important character of Brazil’s political history. “Sua Voz†became an organic confessionary, receiving naïve and romantic messages, yet, with a sincere will and desire for participatory politics.

This is a live news cartoon generator, using RSS feeds and Yahoo searches.
You are presented with the a live RSS news story and invited to comment, or add to it. In this way you collaborate as a commentator, critic or journalist.
You make your contribution by making a Yahoo search, and specifying how you want the final cartoon to look. Your search terms are then converted into lines and arcs of different colours and sizes, depending on the results of your search, and the search words
sprinkled across the page. The RSS news story is split into words and illustrations pulled in
which correspond to those words. These are mixed in with your contribution.
The result is a live news cartoon - created in collaboration by yourself and the network.
